Wishbone Ash - Live Dates (Vinyl Rip)

I've had the good fortune to have seen Wishbone Ash in this configuration of musicians several times from arenas to a high school. Every performance was a bit different but uniformly excellent. Wishbone Ash comes from an era where it was expected that musicians have chops. The band one upped their 70's contemporaries by playing several styles of music from blues based boogie to progressive to folk. Often some jazz was thrown in for good measure.
This could spell a mess but Wishbone Ash was well grounded and had great style when playing and especially when guitarists Andy Powell and Ted Turner soloed.
Live Dates captures the sound and vibe of Wishbone Ash live. The stylistic diversity is quite clear from their take on boogie numbers including Jail Bait, Lady Whiskey and the cover of Baby What You Want Me To Do. These tracks are surrounded by the pop of Blowin' Free, the progressive rock of The Pilgrim, Phoenix, and Warrior along with the quieter English folk of Ballad Of The Beacon.
Wishbone Ash turned conventions upside down with Martin Turner's bass often carrying the melody of a song as guitars harmonized and set the rhythmic tone along with drummer Steve Upton.
Rather than perform carbon copies of album tracks Wishbone Ash frequently improvises or at the least revises solos and in some cases arrangements.
Besides being a great live album it is also a good place to start with Wishbone Ash. Soon after this part of the band's career guitarist Ted Turner left the band and the diversity of styles would become less pronounced.
If you want to get an idea of smart rock in the 70's this is a good place to start.

Santana - Welcome

Welcome is the fifth studio album by Santana, released in 1973. It followed the jazz-fusion formula that the preceding Caravanserai had inaugurated, but with an expanded and different lineup this time. Gregg Rolie had left the band along with Neal Schon to form Journey, and they were replaced by Tom Coster, Leon Thomas and John McLaughlin, who had collaborated with Carlos Santana on Love Devotion Surrender. Welcome also featured John Coltrane's widow, Alice, as a pianist on the album's opening track, "Going Home" and Flora Purim (the wife of Airto Moreira) on vocals. Because this album was far more experimental than his first four albums, Welcome did not feature any hit singles.

Freddie King - Woman Across the River

This is one of my all time favorite Blues albums without a doubt. If i could, i would give this one 10 stars also!!
It has everything, gritty vocals, steel-picked guitar notes that will cut you in half, and a tight backing band. This album and "Texas Cannonball" are my fave Freddie King albums and the feel is similar on both, although this one has a slight edge and this could be because the choice of songs is stronger on this c.d..
"Woman Across The River' was covered recently by The Allman Bros(on Hitting The Note) they did a superb job also, but here is the original....Percy Mayfields song "Danger Zone" is handled exquisitely by Freddie and the blues shuffles "Yonder Wall" and "I'm Ready' just leave you breathless!
Whenever i remember seeing Freddie perform live, even today, the hairs on my head tend to stand on edge...he was a rivetting powerhouse of a man, standing 6 feet 6 inches tall. To me Freddie King WAS the meaning of Electric Blues! Personified!
His influence spread far and wide from Gilmore,Texas across the Atlantic to the turntables of Eric Clapton , Paul Kossoff, Mick Taylor & Peter Green.

Cambiando el servidor - Changing the servers

Saludos

We're trying to change servers to keep on sharing music with everyone, but remember those recordings are only to evaluate or to know the musicians (if you're younger than we are), so if you like it buy it, we're going to put links so you can buy them. Remember is always better to have the original CD with all the stuff it has, pictures, stories, etc. And besides doing this we can help the economy of these musicians that we like so much. We hope the SOPA people don't shut us down. Greetings
