Tuve la fortuna de ver a Wishbone Ash con esta alineación varias veces. Cada concierto era un poco diferente pero uniformemente excelente. Wishbone Ash viene de una epoca donde se esperaba que los músicos fueran eso, músicos de verdad. Esta banda asombró hasta a sus contemporaneos tocando estilos variados desde boogie basado en blues a progresivo y hasta folk. También aventandole un buen de jazz.

Esto podría hacerse un relajo con tanto tipo de música, pero tratandose de Wishbone Ash que tienen un gran estilo y son músicos excelentes, y sobre todo con los guitarristas Andy Powell y Ted Turner cuando se avientan sus solos, que con ellos no hay pierde.

Bueno aquí se los dejo para que lo escuchen, es una de las bandas mas subvaloradas de la escena del rock, bueno... long live rock'n'roll!

I've had the good fortune to have seen Wishbone Ash in this configuration of musicians several times from arenas to a high school. Every performance was a bit different but uniformly excellent. Wishbone Ash comes from an era where it was expected that musicians have chops. The band one upped their 70's contemporaries by playing several styles of music from blues based boogie to progressive to folk. Often some jazz was thrown in for good measure.

This could spell a mess but Wishbone Ash was well grounded and had great style when playing and especially when guitarists Andy Powell and Ted Turner soloed.

Live Dates captures the sound and vibe of Wishbone Ash live. The stylistic diversity is quite clear from their take on boogie numbers including Jail Bait, Lady Whiskey and the cover of Baby What You Want Me To Do. These tracks are surrounded by the pop of Blowin' Free, the progressive rock of The Pilgrim, Phoenix, and Warrior along with the quieter English folk of Ballad Of The Beacon.

Wishbone Ash turned conventions upside down with Martin Turner's bass often carrying the melody of a song as guitars harmonized and set the rhythmic tone along with drummer Steve Upton.

Rather than perform carbon copies of album tracks Wishbone Ash frequently improvises or at the least revises solos and in some cases arrangements.

Besides being a great live album it is also a good place to start with Wishbone Ash. Soon after this part of the band's career guitarist Ted Turner left the band and the diversity of styles would become less pronounced.

If you want to get an idea of smart rock in the 70's this is a good place to start.

Wishbone Ash - Pilgrimage (Remastered)

Pilgrimage es el segundo disco de estudio de la banda Wishbone Ash. Este esta mas inclinado hacia el folk o el rock acústico, esto opuesto al blues rock que era el dominante en su primer album. Este disco tiene un instrumental de jazz "Vas Dis" una armonía vocal de cuatro partes muy al estilo de "Valediction" de Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Mi rola favorita de Wishbone Ash es Jail Bait, se me hace una rola muy buena y con muy balanceada, no le falta nada, está en algunos discos en vivo.

Este disco se vendió muy bien llegó al número 14 en las listas de exitos de Inglaterra, pero la banda llegaría a su máximo esplendor comercial y creativo hasta el siguiente album, el excelente y fuera de serie "Argus", que según muchos críticos y la revista Rolling Stone es un disco de 5 estrellas, e imprescindible para cualquier buen coleccionista de rock, estos chavos acaban de sacar su album y DVD de 40 aniversario por si lo ven por ahí cómprenlo está buenísimo con la participación de algunos antiguos miembros del grupo, se los recomiendo.

 

Pilgrimage is the second studio album by the rock band Wishbone Ash. The album focuses more on folk and acoustic music as opposed to the blues rock sound that dominated the first album. The album also contains an instrumental jazz workout ("Vas Dis") and a four-part harmony vocal track in the spirit of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young ("Valediction").

The album sold well, reaching no.14 in the UK charts, but the band would reach their creative and commercial peak with their next studio album release.

Wishbone Ash - Argus Remasterizado

Esperábamos con ansia el re-lanzamiento de este disco. Fue remasterizado por el bajista Martin Turner hace algunos años para dos compilaciones “Distillation” y “Time Was”. Por primera vez has sido remasterizados incluyendo el álbum “Argus”. El sonido es excelente. Tiene 3 canciones extra del EP “Live in Memphis” lanzado en 1972.

El tercer disco de Wishbone Ash de 1972 “Argus” trae la alineación clásica Andy Powell en guitarra y voz (su famosa Gibson Voladora en V), Ted Turner guitarra y voz (Fender Stratocaster), Martin Turner en el bajo y voz y Steve Upton en la bataca. Cuando salió este disco las algunas revistas Británicas lo eligieron como el mejor del año. Las influencias musicales de la banda van desde el progresivo, folk, jazz, y blues/boogie. Realmente eclécticos, pero este disco está considerado como uno de los 100 mejores del rock, aquí se los dejo en remasterizado y con unas rolas extra.

I was eagerly anticipating the reissue of this album. Bassist/vocalist Martin Turner remixed the tracks on this disk a few years ago for their inclusion in two great Wishone Ash compilation sets "Distillation" and "Time Was". This is the first time the new mixes have been remastered and included in the original "Argus" album context. The sound is excellent. Three bonus tracks from the "Live In Memphis" promo ep which was released in 1972 are also included.

Their third album "Argus" from 1972 features the classic line up of Andy Powell on guitars (Gibson Flying V)and vocals, Ted Turner on guitars (Fender Strat)and vocals, Martin Turner on bass and vocals and Steve Upton on drums. This set at the time of release was voted as album of the year by a few British music magazines. The band hailed from Britain and their unique style is spotlighted at its best on this album. The band's influences ranged from progressive rock, folk, jazz, and blues/boogie.
