Despues de contribuir a varias recopilaciones de Discos Blues Bureau, Jon Butcher firmó con the Mike Varney-led specialty label en 1995 y sacó el Positively the Blues. Como siempre, Butcher canta y toca con singular confianza y convicción en este su primer disco de blues. Con rolas estilo Chicago o Texas en la canción inicial, "Cadillac Limousine," tiene sus tintes de rock de años anteriores y que se le agradece. La siguiente "Union Hall" casi tiene la misma magia del difunto super guitarrista Stevie Ray Vaughan, o como de influencia Hendrix/Vaughan, como la de"At the Feet of the Master" es de lo mejor en este disco, tiene una de las guitarras mas incendiarias de todo el disco. Fans del rock blues estarán muy agradecidos con este disco.
